A practical, experiential course to help you use English with greater ease and confidence, whether for business, travel, daily transactions and social interactions. Using real-life scenarios, students build vocabulary of useful lexis, improve grammar, and apply quick strategies to overcome difficulties.
What will I learn?
By the end of the course, youβll be able to:
- make small talk in English easily (starting and ending conversations, sharing ideas/opinions, interrupting, agreeing/disagreeing, etc)
- accomplish everyday transactions without difficulty (buying, making reservations/inquiries, requesting information, complaining, talking on the phone, etc)
- apply useful strategies to overcome problems when communicating
- use a wider vocabulary of useful English expressions to tell stories, give descriptions and directions, and share opinions/ideas enhanced grammar knowledge, particularly verb tenses, nouns and adjectives, subject-verb agreement)

A: Aside from small talk and business transactions, the course also focuses on improving grammar and vocabulary in specific contexts, for example, using prepositions and adverbs to describe places and give directions, using articles and quantifiers to order/buy/book common items, and using subject-verb agreement rules in telling stories about yourself. - Q: Will there be homework?
A: Yes, participants are provided print, audio and video materials to review and accomplish on their own before and after the class to maximize learning. - Q: What kind of practical exercises can I expect?
A: Itβs an experiential learning course, so there will be a lot of role-play activities, individual speaking turns, story-telling, and linguistic games, as well as grammar/voca and listening exercises.
